Baltic 87 SHAYA: A Landmark Baltic yacht heads to auction
SHAYA was launched as Anny, the first yacht Baltic Yachts ever built with a lifting keel. Delivered in 1996 to a Judel/Vrolijk design, this Baltic 87 combines bluewater capability with the option to reduce her draft for shallow anchorages. A €1.4 million refit followed in 2017, and her rig received extensive maintenance in 2023. SHAYA is lying at Porto da Illa de Arousa in Galicia, Spain. From 17 to 24 November 2026 she will be offered in a yacht auction on YachtBid, with viewing days on 23 October and 21 November.
From Anny to SHAYA
Baltic Yachts has been building high-performance sailing yachts in Finland for half a century. From the 1990s onwards, the German design studio Judel/Vrolijk became one of the yard's key partners, and the Baltic 87 is one of the results of that collaboration.
When she was delivered in 1996, Anny introduced several technical firsts for the yard. Besides the lifting keel, she was Baltic's first yacht with twin rudders, complex hydraulics and push-button sail controls. Her tender garage was equally innovative: a folding deck and transom arrangement allows a water-jet tender to be driven straight into the stern.
On board today
SHAYA measures 26.20 metres, with a 6.20-metre beam and a displacement of 52,000 kg. With the hydraulic keel raised she draws 2.80 metres, and with the keel lowered 4.70 metres. Her hull is built in epoxy composite.
The teak interior has five en-suite guest staterooms for up to 12 guests, with separate crew quarters. On deck, the transformable open-air pilothouse lets her switch between a sheltered and an open cockpit. Under power, two MTU OM366 diesels give her a cruising speed of 8 knots and a maximum of 11 knots.
Her recent history is well documented: a €1.4 million refit in 2017 and extensive rig maintenance in 2023. VAT has been paid.
Where the market stands
The market for yachts of 24 metres and above is performing strongly. In the first half of 2026, 281 yachts of this size changed hands worldwide, the strongest first half on record and the fifth consecutive half-year of growth. At the same time, leading shipyards have order books stretching into 2028 and 2029, so buyers who want a large yacht in the near term are increasingly looking at yachts that are already on the water.
Within that market, sailing yachts form a specialist segment. Of the roughly 6,200 superyachts over 30 metres in operation, around 900 are sailing yachts. Listings show a similar balance, with about 270 sailing yachts of 24 metres and above for sale, compared to more than 1,900 motor yachts. For a buyer looking for a large, technically advanced sailing yacht, the choice at any given moment is limited.
The case for buying SHAYA at auction
A yacht with SHAYA's specification rarely has a direct comparable on the market, which makes her value hard to pin down on paper. An auction settles that question in the open: interested buyers bid alongside each other, and the price is set by what they are prepared to offer.
The auction runs entirely online, so you can follow and place bids from wherever you are. There is no need to be in Spain on the closing day. For buyers within the EU, the fact that VAT has been paid also keeps the purchase straightforward.
